Finger Muscles!
As I observe, not once did I feel like a weirdo sitting down with my phone starring at people workout and maneuver through the gym. Many worked out with their phones in their hand or at least in their sight. While walking through the gym I could’ve sworn people almost every person who was not interacting with another person between a set was on their phone. This one dude literally couldn't take his eyes off his phone. After every set he finished, he immediately turned his attention too his phone. This looked very common throughout the gym as I observed how much a cellular phone mattered too people. If they weren’t on their phone they had ear pods in listening too music.
People were very dependent on their devices. It seemed too me if somehow someway there phone would turn off, their whole attitude towards their workout would immediately be affected. This is just a theory of mine when it comes to people and their phone at their gym. They are literally in their own world. There wasn’t much socializing throughout the gym. There was only 2 people who I saw keep a constant conversation through their workouts without having a handheld device near them. Everyone else seemed like their body functioned because of it. These two people were males. As i was observing and dropping in on their conversation, their main topic or gist of their conversation had a lot too do with what workouts best suited them for their gains and the type of foods that should be digested. As I observed a little more, I realized people only spoke about gym-related topics while working out opposed too the beginning of their workout when I observed people stretching and speaking about the NCAA tournament.
You would think people would put their phones down in efforts too allow them to be more focused but this day in age, Phones are what some people like to call, an escape from reality. The gym is a very powerful place for that but i feel as if people mix both and put themselves in their own little escape from reality.
Step 1. Plug headphones in
Step 2. Play Music
Step 3. Begin Workout
Step 4. Finish set and look at phone till the rest period is over.
Step 5. Finish workout
Step 6. Post on social media a picture of your daily workout gym
Phones over time have made their way or should i say invaded many social spaces that were meant for people to socialize and escape from the true realities of the world. For example, the gym. I make my case with this because as I observed and looked around I came across 2 elderly men who were probable members of the Goldstein Fitness Center. These 2 men had no tracks of a cellular device on them while they worked out nor did they have any headphones visible. How could this be possible? Weren’t phone the new big thing at the gym. These men who come from older times were sophisticated enough to know that they did not need a cellular device to keep them focused while they workout. They knew that this was a much younger generation thing and they had not time being apart.
